October 11: International Day of the Girl
This Friday, October 11, marks International Day of the Girl Child
, an occasion that the United Nations put into effect two years ago. The day celebrates girls while advocating for gender equality and raising awareness about the unique challenges girls face around the world. According to the United Nations, the day's mission is "to help galvanize worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls' lives, providing an opportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential."
This year, the day's theme is "Innovating for Girls' Education." It will focus on the importance of new technology and innovation in partnerships, policies, resource utilization, and engagement of young people.
